April is Financial Literacy Month in the US, but it doesn’t matter what month it falls under because most efforts to improve “financial literacy” do little to improve Americans' financial lives. Here's how to fix that.

If a bank’s marketing efforts inform consumers about their choices and how to choose products and providers, couldn’t that be considered “financial education”?like the one that spent $500 million—roughly $24 per child between the ages of 0 and 5—to help kids sit still in kindergarten.

Blinken urges Russia to release two detained AmericansThe State Department says Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged his Russian counterpart, in a rare phone, to immediately release a Wall Street Journal reporter who was detained last week as well as another imprisoned American, Paul Whelan. In the call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Blinken conveyed “grave concern” over the Kremlin’s detention of journalist Evan Gershkovich on espionage allegations, according to a State Department summary. Blinken called for his immediate release. Blinken also sought the immediate release of Whelan, whom the statement said was wrongfully detained. Whelan, a Michigan corporate security executive, has been imprisoned in Russia since December 2018 on espionage charges that his family and the U.S. government have said are baseless.
