Democratic U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman drew a crowd of more than 800 people to the York Fairgrounds on Saturday afternoon to rally their support for him in his tightening race against Republican opponent Mehmet Oz.
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman stepped on stage in the Weis Arena on Saturday waving to the welcoming hometown crowd that responded with rousing applause and shouts.
“I really hope that you never had a doctor in your life ridiculing you and telling you that you’re not fit to serve or work,” Fetterman said. “I do. Unfortunately, if we don’t do what we need to do, we’re all going to have that doctor for the next six years.” Greg Anstine of Wrightsville said he was hoping that the 53-year-old Fetterman’s health isn’t a deterrent that keeps people from voting for him.
“It’s better than some of the mental health issues that some Republican candidates have,” Dowling added. “They’re off the tracks. The whole party is off the tracks. It’s about power not about candidacy or ethics or anything policy. Their policy is to get power no matter what.” Transitioning to the issue of abortion, another area where the two candidates’ views differ, he said, “Dr. Oz believes that every woman that chose abortion believes that’s a murder. He celebrated with Roe v. Wade going down. He stands with [Republican gubernatorial candidate] Doug Mastriano,” drawing a loud boo.
