Despite states' continued calls for more federal involvement, FEMA is still pushing back against playing a more active role in leading the supply chain amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to House Democrats
Officials from FEMA and the Department of Health and Human Services briefed members of the House Oversight Committee this week on the coronavirus response. In the briefing, the Democrats said, FEMA acknowledged that private businesses producing personal protective equipment for medical workers was"not moving fast enough for any of us," and that trying to get enough masks to match the need of states and hospitals from private businesses was like"chasing rabbits in an open field.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy questioned the need for a new panel, saying it would be"redundant" when other committees can already conduct oversight and criticizing the selection of Clyburn to lead it."Congressman Clyburn is the one who thought that this crisis is an opportune time to restructure government. That's not what we should be doing," the California Republican said.
