The move comes amid mounting pressure for the NFL franchise to rename itself away from a term commonly defined as a slur against Native Americans
FedEx Corp., the Washington Redskins’ most prominent sponsor and the namesake of the NFL team’s stadium, called for the franchise to change its name, a company spokeswoman said.
The move is the starkest challenge yet to the franchise over a name that is commonly defined as a racial slur. Native American activists and others have, for years, called on the team to change its name. But team owner Dan Snyder has steadfastly refused.
