A prominent Canadian businessman and digital rights advocate is praising a British Columbia judge's decision that will see a voter-privacy case against Canada’s three largest political parties reach trial next week after years of delay. A hearing is expected to go ahead on April 22 in a case that could have big implications for how federal political parties use voters’ data in their campaigning and fundraising activities.
This time, however, the parties were not successful in delaying the judicial review. ‘Insightful to see first-hand’: Balsillie Balsillie, who attended the virtual adjournment hearing, said what stood out to him was that the parties are willing to invest significant effort in fighting more stringent regulations.
