A person is dead following a head-on collision that occurred on State Route 2 in Snohomish County Wednesday evening.

Snohomish County deputies first arrived at the scene at around 6:22 p.m. and reported that both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles. Officials from Snohomish County Fire District #4 and Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue also responded to the incident. The first fire unit from Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue arrived at the scene roughly seven minutes after deputies, according to officials. Officials were then able to find one seriously injured patient and another victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The trapped patient was removed from the vehicle in roughly 12 minutes and taken to a local hospital, according to officials SR 2 will remain closed for the collision investigation. Westbound traffic is being diverted to 88th and eastbound traffic is being diverted to SR9, according to Washington State Patrol .
