Major sewer system projects are underway now or soon will be across the Fairhope area. From lift stations to holding tanks and new sewer lines, the goal is to move sewer to the treatment plant faster than it can backup and overflow.
) - The city of Fairhope is undergoing major upgrades to its sewer system which will continue for most of this year. They include new and refurbished lift stations at several locations.
It’s a problem the city began addressing several years ago with the expansion of its sewage treatment plant. Four new lift stations are being constructed at South Section Street, adjacent to the Public Works building, North Section Street at Rosa Avenue, at the Pier Street Park and Boat Launch and Twin Beach Road, north of Battles Road. Three existing lift stations will be rehabbed, and a new sewer line is being run along County Road 13 between Fairhope Avenue and Highway 104. In addition, side stream holding tanks are being constricted at Quail Creak and at Highway 98 and Woodlands Drive.
All of these projects will help address the continued growth in the area and repair old infrastructure. With so many happening at once, they often interfere with traffic, but many said it’s just the price of progress.
