Steve Descano, the Soros-backed Fairfax County Commonwealth’s attorney, is facing pushback from prosecutors on his team over how his policies have hamstrung them in child sex abuse cases. According to emails from those attorneys, the lack of support from “leadership” and Descano’s policies have emboldened defense attorneys to refuse any plea deals for child sex crimes that aren’t misdemeanors.
This isn’t the first time that sex crimes have been an issue in Descano’s office. In April 2022, the Washington Free Beacon wrote about the mass departures from his office, leaving inexperienced prosecutors to handle serious crimes. This resulted in a soft plea deal that, according to a Fairfax County judge, led to a victim being molested twice more by a criminal after the first incident.
Fairfax County is only one of many such counties and cities that discovered that a weak district attorney who prioritizes criminals over victims will only embolden criminals. Los Angeles County, Philadelphia, New York City, and others have all gone down this same path and seen the same results. Whether or not they learn their lesson will become apparent the next time voters head to the polls.
