Excitement is building after Andretti and Cadillac announced their partnership for a tilt at F1, but the sport itself has issued a statement urging caution: “Any new entrant request requires the agreement of both F1 and the FIA.”

Formula 1 issued a reminder that new entrants require their agreement as well as the FIA’s, in the wake of Andretti announcing its partnership with General Motors to launch a bid to get into the sport.including PlanetF1.com that his team had partnered with GM through Cadillac to submit an expression of interest to the FIA over becoming a new team in Formula 1, after FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem invited prospective entrants to submit bids for a future place on the grid.

“There is great interest in the F1 project at this time with a number of conversations continuing that are not as visible as others,” read Formula 1’s statement.
