How can you protect yourself? An expert in self-defense spoke recently to a full house at the Hills Swim and Tennis Club. Michael Bloom told the group about how to lessen your chance of being a victim.

Also, if an armed suspect gets the upper hand, “use your judgment, but fight if you have to,” Bloom says. “If someone wants your money and you only have $10, give it to them. But if you decide to fight back, never give in and let the potential offender know — by demeanor and deed rather than words — that you will never give in.”

And this may seem extreme — but even if you’re home, lock your doors. Bloom says “most home invasions happen during the daytime. Locking the door is the easiest way to keep your family safe in the house.”
