Exxon Mobil Corp is attempting to start the new crude distillation unit (CDU) at its 369,024 barrel-per-day (bpd) Beaumont, Texas, refinery, people familiar with plant operations said on Thursday.
When CDU C reaches full production, the Beaumont refinery will be at least the second-largest in capacity in the United States.
Currently, the 626,000-bpd Motiva Enterprises refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, is the largest, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
