'Extremely hot' temperatures stifle Bay Area but cooldown on the way

Over the weekend, a high-pressure system lingered above the San Francisco Bay Area, stifling the region with the hottest weather of the year so far.

, with San Francisco reaching just 58 degrees, a temperature previously set in 1960, 1964 and 1970, and Oakland hitting 52 degrees, a temperature previously set in 1979.

Then, temperatures soared, particularly throughout the inland Bay Area down to the Central Coast, as a heat wave brought. On Saturday, some of the highest temperatures recorded were at the Concord Airport, which reported a high of 105 degrees, while the Livermore Airport reached 107 degrees, and the Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa reached a high of 101 degrees, said Alexis Clouser, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

Hot in the Hills! Here is a snapshot of overnight"low temps". You'll see that higher elevations had lows in the 70s to low 80s. The marine layer is only 500-1000 ft deep, so warmer air above the marine layer kept those locations warm overnight.
