An exclusive clip from tonight's TheRingsofPower season finale: Galadriel, Elrond, High King Gil-galad, and eventual ring-maker Celebrimbor discuss creating an object that will change their world forever. 🔗:
The four elves need the mystical metal mithril in order to stave off a kind of spiritual plague that threatens wipe out the existence of their kind. The dwarves of Khazad-dûm, who are the only source of the luminous ore, have provided only a small fragment of it, so Celebrimbor must figure out a way make the most of it.
Before the clip begins, Celebrimbor suggests creating a single item that will amplify the energy in their meager amount of mithril, and bestow it upon the king himself to heal his people and allow them to continue inhabiting Middle-earth. Gil-Gilad is doubtful, as he explains in the scene. Not only is he unsure about whether it will work, but even if it does, should any one individual be granted an item this potentially dangerous?
An enduring question of Tolkien's lore is why the elves accepted the three rings of power that Sauron later used to control them. The simplest inference is that even the high-minded elves can be tempted and corrupted by power.Patrick McKay , attempts to answer some of this unspoken history. From this clip, we learn the elves were desperate for help, grasping for whatever could save them, despite the risks.
