Stephen Weiss, who for two decades served as a pulpit rabbi at B’nai Jeshurun, was ordered to serve six months in prison.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A judge on Monday sentenced the former longtime rabbi of a Pepper Pike synagogue to prison following his arrest as part of an underage sex sting.
The men said that, while Weiss took full responsibility for his actions, medication that Weiss was prescribed after he suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2018 affected his impulse control and decision-making. One of his doctors wrote in a report provided to the court that he did not believe Weiss would have committed the crime had he not suffered the injury.
Weiss, according to a court filing, used the profile name “FitDad4Boys” on the app. He reached out to the undercover investigator’s account and complimented his looks. They began to chat. Weiss sent the agent a photograph of himself using a setting that automatically deleted the photograph after it was received, Radigan said.
Weiss also asked the agent to move their conversation to an encrypted text messaging application because it’s “safer there.”
