Even if we weren’t promised a rose garden….we might be surprised
We planted a rose garden a year ago. Not a big one, but maybe a dozen bushes. And to our surprise, they bloomed that spring. Profusely. We enjoyed them all year. My favorite thing to do is put them in the kitchen window so we could be reminded all day of their colorful glory.
Winter in northern California came, and they were still blooming. Such surprisingly hardy blooms. And then, in early January, the blooms finally petered out. Nothing. And then, in mid January, there they were again! Not yet profuse, but there! This time, the pretty apricot roses I love so much were in full bloom. You can see four of them in the photo above. They’d been scarce the entire previous year but they certainly have begun to make up for lost time.
More new plants are coming and we’ll be filling in the gaps in our garden soon. My vision is to fill the entire side yard with roses of all colors. But there IS a point to this story: We’ve had some dark times. No one promised us a rose garden, but no one told us these times would be as bleak as they are. Still, as my roses tell us, there is a natural order to things, a cycle of life, and just as my roses came back better than ever, we’ll recover from this dark time, too.And every day, I’m shipping gently supportive gifts for healing and for grief.
Don’t forget — you can order my gorgeous floral and crystal studded candles through March 27. Same shop.
