Which, translated into local dialect, means it’s really a lot aboutRolen, as you may recall was a power hitting, excellent-fielding third baseman of the first decade of this century. He had a similar, though shorter, career to Beltré.
According to the exit polls, Rolen is trending towards possibly squeaking in as the only member of the 2023 class. Dedicated, diligent and dare we say slightly obsessive. With 167 ballots known, which is about half those believed to have been sent out, Rolen has been named on 79 percent, a net gain of 11 votes from the voters who have revealed ballots. It takes being being named on 75 percent of the ballots returned to be elected.
Beltré got better, rather than worse, in the second half of his career. He was a .791 OPS guy for his first 10 full years in the league but an .856 guy for his last 10. That may also have something to do with spending the first 10 in pitcher-friendly parks in Los Angeles and Seattle and the last half in Boston and Arlington.
