The strike notice comes after nearly 26 hours of negotiations.
Stock photo of an empty classroom.CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Euclid Teachers’ Association delivered a 10-day strike notice on Thursday as contract negotiations with the city’s Board of Education have reached a stalemate.
“Regardless, after the strike begins, you will see Euclid teachers on the picket lines supported by other teacher unions as well as other labor organizations who have offered us their support,” Stephens said. “This only redoubles our commitment to continue bargaining in good faith to reach a contract settlement that is fair and equitable for all parties,” the board said in a press release. “The Union is fighting to keep contract language dating from the 1950′s in place, even though changes in education over the past seven decades necessitate modernizing our contract to better ensure student success as they prepare to enter today’s world, not that of our grandparents.
Teachers are also “seeking a fair compensation package since we are the second-lowest paid school in the county,” Stephens said. The board claimed Friday that it has offered teachers one of the most significant salary increases among any school district in Ohio.
