Sen. Joni Ernst suggested today that Chuck Schumer is blocking progress on reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act to undermine her re-election campaign
Sen. Joni Ernst is battling with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer over the Violence Against Women Act, with Ernst suggesting Schumer is halting her bill to thwart her reelection campaign and Schumer charging that Ernst is "afraid of the NRA."
Schumer has called the GOP Senate a "legislative graveyard" and bristled at the charge that he was the one slowing things down. He said Ernst's version of the bill shows she "is simply afraid of the NRA." The spat came as Ernst prepares to introduce her version of the Violence Against Women Act, after bipartisan discussions with Senate Judiciary ranking member Dianne Feinstein to reauthorize the law have fallen apart.Schumer and other Democrats have blamed Republican leadership for not bringing the House-passed version forward.
