Make a positive environmental impact by volunteering at Edmonds Community Centre litter cleanup event on Saturday, Aug. 26.
A series of community clean-up events organized by the Lower Mainland Green Team kicked off earlier this year and has carried on into the summer. The third community cleanup event organized by the LMGT and the City of Burnaby will be held this weekend near the Edmonds community centre.
On Saturday , Edmonds Community Centre will be celebrating its 10th birthday — and you can join the Green Team from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. as volunteers to help clean the area around it. In an email to the NOW, LMGT spokesperson Ashton Kerr said the last two litter cleanups in Burnaby — on June 24 and July 29 — saw the biggest turnouts with a total of 183 volunteers.Kerr noted the August cleanup has already received 104 volunteer signs ups. The goal is to care for our community and nature, and ensure litter stays out of ecosystems and waterways, while also socializing in the outdoors.
The event is rain or shine, and gloves, tools, safety vests, supplies, educational instruction and refreshments will be provided. Interested residents can sign up directly on the LMGT's Meetup Page or by emailing [email protected] LMGT's last summer litter cleanup event in Burnaby is scheduled for Sept. 30 at the Eileen Dailly Pool and Fitness Centre.
