When Jonathan Yantis, tech multimillionaire and chief operating officer of WAX , bought his $24 million mansion in Kapalua, Hawaii, in December 2020, he probably anticipated peace and quiet on his idyllic oceanfront property. However, according to a recent report from, it's been anything but and has instead ignited a battle between locals and wealthy homeowners.

That’s because Yantis' 7.66-acre property is situated near the “Cliff House,” a popular swimming destination in West Maui where locals can swim, hang out and dive off cliffs. And now, Hawaii activists are accusing Yantis of harassing them and restricting access to the Kapalua shoreline. “He’s trying to dictate what the public can do on our shoreline. He’s done things like remove a ladder at the base of the rocks where the keiki used to get all the water after you jump off the cliffs. He’s hired private security to harass anyone playing music,” activist Kai Nishiki told Hawaii News Now.

Yantis countered, saying that he hired private security in order to curb underage drinking and reduce noise levels. “All I really want is just to stop the massive noise pollution,” he
