A pub that’s thought to be England’s oldest at more than 1,200 years old closed its doors on Friday because of the effects of the pandemic, according to the Evening Standard.
Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, located near Verulamium Park in St. Albans, could open again under a new leaseholder.
The pandemic and public health restrictions squeezed business until he couldn’t meet the financial obligations for the pub, Tofalli. The Christmas season was his “last chance” to rescue the pub, but with the surge of the Omicron variant, there weren’t enough customers to make up for losses. “We are currently exploring all opportunities for the site’s future and hope to reopen the pub under new management as soon as possible,” the company told theTofalli also told the PA news agency there was a “120%” likelihood that the pub would reopen.
