Mr Shapps said he was concerned by reports of direct debits rising based on projections despite people taking steps to cut energy use, stressing: “Households shouldn’t see their direct debits rise when their energy use falls.” He added: “I am interested to understand how you intend to ensure that your direct debit system does not overestimate charging.
