Some end of the season questions for Auburn basketball 🏀
Smith is a consensus All-American. Most publications have him as a top-5 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. While he hasn’t declared yet and told reporters last week that he is undecided, it’d be challenging to turn down the guaranteed money that comes with being a lottery pick.
Kessler only played 13 minutes while Miami scored 48 points in the paint. He averaged nearly five blocks per game and was a block away from a triple-double in the opening round win against Jacksonville State. Several publications have Kessler as a late first-round pick. Jaylin Williams and Dylan Cardwell often spelled Kessler and Smith this season. Williams and Cardwell accepted reduced roles when Kessler and Smith arrived. Williams played well in the tournament despite chipping his tooth against Jacksonville State. Cardwell played extended minutes against the Gamecocks while Kessler, who inadvertently elbowed Williams causing injury, was in the locker room getting treatment with Williams during the second half of Auburn’s win.
Pearl could look to the portal for more scoring, especially from the three-point line since Smith was the leading three-point shooter for the Tigers with a 42% this season. Other than Smith, the Tigers weren’t a good team shooting from long-range. Poor shooting bit them in their losses. Auburn must fix this by either current players getting better from behind the arc or finding a shooter in the portal.It’s easy to forget how great Auburn played this season.
