Perhaps Victor Cui will be proven prophetic after all. As a first-time Canadian Football League president with the Edmonton Elks last year, he ...
Victor Cui, seen here in an undated file photo, was nothing if not fearless in making bold predictions during his short time as Edmonton Elks president and CEO. But one of them could come true after all.
Going 1-3 in that stretch, the joke from then on was perhaps Cui had meant four wins in the entire season, which just so happens to be where the 4-14 Elks ended up. The Tiger-Cats were one of three teams with just three wins to show on the season, ahead of their game against the B.C. Lions on Saturday. The others: The Ottawa Redblacks and the Calgary Stampeders, who just so happen to be the Elks’ next two opponents lining up over the coming three weeks.
And let’s not forget about another called shot that failed to connect for Cui, who came into the season selling a significant amount of guaranteed-win tickets, where one would keep getting you in the door until the Elks finally break the rather embarrassing streak. But at this point, even a faint glimmer of hope is hope nonetheless for Elks head coach and general manager Chris Jones, who has to realize this current run through the bottom of the CFL’s barrel represents his team’s last gasp.
