Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge ran the fastest official marathon ever on Sunday, easily winning the Berlin Marathon with a time of 2:01:09.
Kipchoge bested his own world record by 30 seconds. He previously set the world record in 2018 with a time of 2:01:39.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist was nearly a mile ahead of his closest competition when he crossed the finish line. He defeated Mark Korir by more than four minutes."I am overjoyed to have broken the world record in Berlin. I wanted to run the first half so fast," said Kipchoge.
