District U-46's five high school bands will present a free public showcase Thursday night at Elgin High School's Memorial Stadium.The marching bands from School District U-46′s five high schools will perform in a free public showcase at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at Elgin High School’s Memorial Field, 1200 Maroon Drive.
Each band will do a 15-minute program and then receive feedback from a group of clinicians made up of veteran band directors, according to a news release.The showcase performance order will be Streamwood High School, followed by Bartlett, Larkin, South Elgin and Elgin.Summit School Inc. will receive $25,000 to replace deteriorating windows at its River Road facility, according to a news release.
An open house at Elgin Fire Station No. 2 on Big Timber Road will held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.The Elgin Fire Department will be hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Station No. 2, 650 Big Timber Road. The event will include a building fire demonstration at 1 p.m., free eye exams provided by the Lions Club, Narcan training and fire extinguisher demonstrations, and information about hazardous materials and about the Elgin police and fire explorers programs.A naturalist-led hike, followed by stories and crafts, will be held by the Kane County Forest Preserve District from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 6, at Hampshire Forest Preserve, 44W780 Allen Road in Hampshire.
Participants will learn about nighttime animals during the hike, district officials said.
