The inaugural ceremony for Los Angeles Mayor-elect Karen Bass – the first woman to hold this post – will be held Sunday, Dec. 11, one day before she assumes office.
Scheduling the swearing-in and inaugural ceremony for Sunday will make it more convenient for the public to participate in the historic moment and allow Bass to devote her first day in office to attending to the city’s most pressing matters, the Office of the mayor-elect said in a media advisory on Thursday, Dec. 1.
The ceremony, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., will take place on the Spring Street steps of City Hall, at 200 N. Spring St.www.mobilize.us/karenbass/event/544755“Holding the ceremony on a Sunday will make it easier for Angelenos to attend this historic event and will ensure the Mayor-elect can dedicate her first day as mayor to bringing unhoused Angelenos inside and making our city safer and more livable for all,” the advisory said.regarding the city’s homelessness crisis on her first day in office.
Bass is a six-term congresswoman who served in the California Assembly from 2005 to 2010. She previously made U.S. history when she became the first Black woman to serve as speaker in any state legislature.
