But when nothing else was working offensively, the Elks displayed an ability to move the ball on the ground like nothing they’ve shown all year, racking up 226 rushing yards in the game, compared to 173 through the air when it was all said and done. Ford sits one spot out of the top-10 in both passing yards and rushing yards on the season, despite playing just five games since being bumped into the starting role. In that same time, Brown has averaged 97.5 rushing yards per game.
Up until that point, the Elks had all of 21 yards through the air. And it could be argued 10 of them came on a pitchout to Kyran Moore and shouldn’t have counted as passing yards. “Right. They harp on being more physical up front and dominating the run game,” Brown said of his offensive coaches. “So, that’s what we’ve been working on.”
Sitting at 3-10 with just five games remaining might seem bleak, but it sure beats the 0-9 start they got off to.
