Durham Radio News doesn’t normally post editorial content, but when local news is being attacked we refuse to stay silent.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called their threats to remove news a bullying tactic and said it will not work with his government.DRN has been trying to get our voices heard for months on the negative impact this bill would have on our business.We will not be naming other outlets and we don’t begrudge the financial help they are already receiving.
Whitby MP Ryan Turnbull finally agreed to a meeting with us last week, but at that point the bill was already poised to become law. Independent local news is important to a community and it is under attack from multiple sides right now.It’s tough enough to be a journalist these days without being attacked by our own government.
