Parliamentarians applauding man who fought with the Nazis only latest farce
Canadians have long felt our traditional role on the world stage is as peacekeepers; the less powerful but more level-headed counterparts to other Western nations.On Friday, Sept. 22, when Ukrainian President Volodmyr Zelenskyy was visiting Parliament, it was a crucial day for things to go well in the House of Commons. Instead, Zelenskyy, Canadian MPs and all present werewho had fought with the First Ukrainian Division in the Second World War against the Soviet Union.
By the time this editorial is published, it is possible that Speaker Anthony Rota will have lost his job over this shameful invitation but the Speaker’s Office is not the only government outfit that has been failing Canadians and tarnishing our reputation. Canada was already earning bad press and a mediocre response from leaders around the world for its accusation that thein killing a Sikh Canadian on Canadian soil. India vehemently denied this claim and then issued its own accusation that Canada harbours Sikh terrorists.
