The East River Valley Fire Department is excited to have a new tanker truck. It arrived Saturday after being driven from Manitoba. - ContributedThe East River Valley Fire Department in Bridgeville checked a big ticket item off their wishlist this month.Firefighter Jason McKenzie said the department has been talking about getting a new tanker for years now, so it’s nice to see it become reality.
Leaders in the department took every step they could to ensure they got exactly what they were looking for. McKenzie even flew out to Manitoba to do a final inspection of the truck before it was driven across the country to its new home in Pictou County. McKenzie said it’s good that it’s coming on a Freightliner chassis because it can be repaired in Pictou County, unlike some other brands of chassis.Other local fire departments have purchased from the company as well, so they were able to check them out ahead of time and liked what they saw.
