E.U. warns of ‘strong response’ if energy infrastructure sabotaged
, the Council of the European Union said that all information pointed to the leaks being the result of a “deliberate act” and any such disruption of European energy infrastructure would be met “with a robust and united response.”European leaders blame Russian ‘sabotage’ after Nord Stream explosions
These statements come after multiple European officials on Tuesday blamed the Kremlin for the incidents and suggested they were meant as a threat.Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said such claims by European leaders are “predictably stupid” and “absurd,” in a call with reporters. Russia had no interest in damaging the pipeline because of the high value of the gas, he said, which due to the leak, had been lost.
A U.S. official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter, said the United States had noting to do with the attack on the Nord Stream pipeline, calling the idea “preposterous.” “After what happened in the Baltic Sea, the Norwegian armed forces will be more present and more visible in areas around our oil and gas installations,” Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said. He noted, however, at this time the country has no indications of direct threats.
