De Rosario and Gayle will be honoured later this year at a national team match
Former MLS MVP Dwayne De Rosario and long-time international Robyn Gayle have been named to the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame.
Ken MacLean, chair of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame committee, was also involved in the notifications. Gayle, a glue member of the women’s squad, won 81 caps for Canada from 2006 to 2015, winning Olympic bronze, Pan American Games gold and silver at the inaugural FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship.
In December 2020, he was named to “The 25 Greatest,” part of MLS’s celebration of its 25th season. He was the only Canadian on the list, which included David Beckham, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan and Sebastian Giovinco. An elite defender at the University of North Carolina, Gayle was the defensive MVP of the 2006 College Cup. Gayle played both as a defensive midfielder and defender for the Tar Heels.
