All five police stations are accepting fine clothing donations ahead of the annualThe aim is to provide students experiencing financial stress with suits and dresses for their Proms or graduations.
“They can come and see us, and we will suit them up for success,” said Constable Rui Ferreira, one of the organizers of“We want to be able to give that opportunity to them, to get dressed up and do what they want to do on their special day,” said Sergeant Joanne Bortoluss, one of the organizers ofis set for April 16, between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., at the Oshawa Centre.
“Due to the overwhelming success that this event has had, we’re going to hold it over two days this year,” said Sergeant Bortoluss.“Suits, belts, shoes – anything that’s in good shape that a member of the public could use or reuse,” said Constable Ferreira, noting that there’s a particular need for suits in smaller sizes, between 34 and 40. “We would love to get those perhaps from hockey-aged kids,” he said. “I know they wear suits to their games.
“Any dresses that you no longer need,” said Bortoluss. “Any shoes, any jewellery – anything like that that’s donatable and you want it to go to a good cause.” “The response has been amazing,” she added. “We have had a number of officers, as well as staff from G.L Roberts and the school board that have offered to pitch in and volunteer for this event.”
