Each agency has exclusive jurisdiction over its own geographic area, and while they make efforts to coordinate operations, as evidenced by the response to the convoy protest, there are serious cracks in the system.
This past month, a report into the convoy response was also released from Ottawa’s municipal auditor general which, unsurprisingly, also called for change to the policing status quo. Everyone who looks into our situation knows that change is needed — yet a year later, nothing has changed. Regardless of any promised improvements in communication between the multitude of police, intelligence agencies and governments, last year’s occupation laid bare the systemic deficiencies inherent with the mess of overlapping, but separate, police jurisdictions.
