Dublin church preschool burglarized twice in two days

DUBLIN — A longstanding church preschool in Dublin was burglarized twice in the span of two days this week while it was closed because of COVID, resulting in the theft of thousands of dollars of school equipment, electronics, toys, and even diapers, a school official said.

“To steal from children, it breaks my heart,” Hidley said in an interview Thursday. Hidley said she and the school’s director, Wazhma Masarweh, noticed a person they didn’t recognize while reviewing the school’s security camera video around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, and once they discovered the theft, called the police.

The thief or thieves also located keys for a locked cabinet with a teacher’s gift cards, and took those, along with several other keys to the facility. Treffkorn said part of the reason she chose the nonprofit church school for her son was because it felt like a close-knit community. The church is known around town, even to people who don’t attend it, because of the bells it sounds every day, she said.
