When Campbell River RCMP officers were conducting a search warrant following an arrest related to a stabbing earlier this month, they discovered firearms and drugs.

The stabbing took place on July 19 around 11 a.m. in the downtown core. The victim was stabbed in the back and was taken to hospital and has since been released from care.Officers also conducted a search warrant of the suspects residence, where they discovered several firearms and drugs, which were seized.

The firearms included modified rifles and shotguns and the drugs included over 100 grams of fentanyl and smaller quantities of prescription dilaudid and crack cocaine. The suspect has been released on protective conditions and police will recommend firearms, drug and property offence charges. “This search and seizure is the result of the excellent ongoing police work carried out by our local officers on a day to day basis,” said Inspector Jeff Preston. “Anytime we are able to remove illegal firearms and a toxic drug supply from the community, it’s a positive for the community’s overall well being.”Sign up for the CHEK Now daily email newsletter to get breaking news and the day's top stories sent to your email.

The victim in that stabbing, Colin Dube-Wheat, was airlifted to the Victoria General Hospital for life-saving surgery.
