He'd been out of trouble for five years, the court was told
A driver charged by police with drug-driving was given a cannabis cake by a friend, a court heard. Ross Wood, 30, of Kingswell Avenue, Arnold, was stopped by police in Highbury Road, Bulwell, on June 26 last year.
Initially he expressed his disappointment at being stopped by police, who described him of smelling of cannabis, said prosecutor Faith Rowan at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday . A drugs swipe was positive. He was taken to a police station where cannabis was found in his blood, sending him over the legal limit.
Wood went on to plead guilty to drug-driving. His solicitor said a couple of days beforehand a friend had given him some cake. Then Wood was stopped by officers and he fully accepted the process. But his friend had admitted there was cannabis in the cake, and Wood had asked his solicitor to put that forward on his behalf about the truth of what had happened. Wood has no previous convictions for drug-driving and has been out of trouble for five years, the court heard.
Judge Leo Pyle gave him full credit for his plea of guilty and took into account all the circumstances, imposing a £300 fine, £120 victim surcharge, prosecution costs of £85. He was also given a three-year driving ban.
