Two drug traffickers admitted Tuesday in Dallas federal court they plotted to murder federal task force officer, the U.S. attorney’s office said. Manuel...

The men, who are reportedly connected to a Mexican drug cartel, arranged for money to be delivered to pay a hit man to murder the agent on their drug case, authorities said.

The pair are believed to be affiliated with Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generation, which officials called “one of Mexico’s most violent and powerful drug cartels.” They now face up to life in prison when they are sentenced. Gomez is scheduled to be sentenced in August. No date has been set for Larios.“These defendants plotted to murder an officer who routinely risks his own safety to rid our streets of dangerous drugs,” U.S. Attorney Chad Meacham said in a statement. “The Justice Department will not tolerate retaliatory violence against its own. We are prepared to move mountains to protect the men and women who protect us.

Larios, who also was in federal custody at the time, called an unindicted co-conspirator, known as “Roberto,” and asked him to deliver money to a workshop “so we can take care of something,” court records said.
