It was the first fatal wreck of the year in Hayward.
HAYWARD — A 50-year-old man died Sunday in a two-car crash at an intersection in the industrial part of the city, police said.
The crash at the intersection of W. Winton Avenue and Clawiter Road happened about 7:30 p.m. Both cars had only the driver inside them, according to a statement from Hayward police.A 22-year-old man stayed at the crash site and cooperated with police. Police said they believe that man was under some kind of impairment but did not make an arrest immediately.
The older man was unconscious when officers arrived, and medics weren’t able to revive him, police said. Medics pronounced him dead.Police said the investigation is ongoing.
