SAN PABLO — A 21 year-old man was killed Friday night near Giant Road and John Avenue by a driver who then fled the scene, San Pablo police officials said.
Officers found the young pedestrian at 10:12 p.m. Friday in the roadway suffering from “severe” injuries, according to a press release from the San Pablo Police Department. Police had not identified him by name as of Saturday evening.With help from Richmond police, officers on Saturday morning arrested a Richmond man — 30 year-old Duglus Rodas-Reyes — as the person they believe was responsible for hitting the victim.
Witnesses and surveillance cameras had led police to suspect a 2005 Dodge Magnum vehicle was involved in the crash, and they found that vehicle on Enterprise Avenue in Richmond, where they also identified and arrested Rodas-Reyes as he was trying to leave in the car. Police say that Rodas-Reyes admitted to being the driver who hit the man and to fleeing the scene. He was booked into Contra Costa County Jail on charges of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter, which the District Attorney’s prosecutors will review next week to determine if they will file formal charges.
