Driver convicted of killing tourist in downtown San Diego road-rage fight [Breaking]
A driver accused of fatally stabbing a tourist in the heart during a road-rage brawl in downtown San Diego last year has been found guilty of second-degree murder.
Byron Lee, 35, faces 15 years to life in the death of Yacoub Abdallah in 2021, and an additional year for using a knife in the attack. The verdict, reached Tuesday, followed a roughly two-week trial in San Diego Superior Court. According to authorities, the two men had a road-rage dispute that escalated into a physical fight at Third Avenue and Market Street about 3 p.m. June 26, 2021. The fight broke up, each man got back in his vehicle and drove off.
As Abdallah drove away, he realized he was injured, authorities said. He lost consciousness and crashed into a light pole, a tree and power box at First Avenue near Broadway.Police said a woman who’d been in the car with Abdullah sustained minor injuries when the vehicle crashed. A 14-year-old girl near the crash site sustained minor injuries from flying debris.
On Sept. 2, 2021 — more than two months after the crash — police found and arrested Lee in Ontario, in San Bernardino County.
