A driver called the Westlake Police Department at noon on Oct. 7 to report that a white pickup truck was tailgating him on I-90 westbound at Columbia Road in an apparent road rage incident.
The caller “brake checked” the offending pickup, according to the police statement. The pickup driver eventually drove around the reporting driver and brake-checked him after flipping him off. The driver of the white pickup motioned for the victim to pull over. Both drivers pulled to the berm and exited their vehicles. The driver of the white pickup pulled out a gun, words were exchanged, and the complainant drove off, according to the police department.
The driver did not pull over for several miles as a police cruiser pursued. The pursuing officers called off the chase when their cruiser sustained a flat tire.
