Dozens evacuated as polyurethane factory burns in Tijuana [Breaking]
Dozens of people were evacuated after a fire broke out Wednesday morning at a polyurethane factory located in the La Mesa area of Tijuana.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire, although it is estimated that it could take 48 to 72 hours to completely extinguish, according to Rafael Carrillo, director of the Tijuana Fire Department. More than 50 people were evacuated, both in the factory and in neighboring businesses, said authorities. No injuries were reported.The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. at the Calinor company, located on Sara Street in the Yamile neighborhood, which manufactures polyurethane for the production of mattresses and furniture, said authorities.
Due to the amount of material released from the fire, authorities urged residents of the surrounding areas to avoid going near the area, to use masks and not to engage in outdoor activities.
