Scott Bell trains Woodmere Soul at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park in 2021. Spurred on by a social media post recently, Bell's idea will become reality this November with plans for the richest two-year-old race in decades in Atlantic Canada, featuring a moving target of a purse, writes Nicholas Oakes.
“Joe Kelly will do the conditions, and it will be in November and will not interfere with the stakes schedule,” Stymest said. “It's a needed boost to the depressed situation in Truro, and the new manager can do a good job at promoting it.” “It should make more exciting stake races all year because no one will be backing down quarters because they will want to be in the fast miles,” Bell said while noting a companion filly event is not out of the question.
“Imagine if we sold 30 spots? That puts together $150,000. The six slow ones can go for $10,000. Top eight horses can go for $90,000 then there would be a group for $30,000 and a group for $20,000. This is going to be a huge deal.”
