U.S. stock benchmarks opened solidly lower Tuesday, extending a decline from a day ago, as investors fretted about U.S.-China trade tensions, following confirmation by Trump officials of a plan to raise duties on China imports to 25% from 10% by Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -1.07% fell 204 points, or 0.8%, at 26,233, the S&P 500 index SPX, -1.14% declined 0.6% to 2,913, while the Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, -1.22% retreated by 0.8% to 8,055.
