Canada’s industry minister François-Philippe Champagne welcomed Ford’s comments and said he was confident of a deal with Stellantis, which includes brands such as Chrysler, Dodge and Fiat.

“I want to dismiss something that I have seen in the press,” said Champagne. “In March of last year we already had a deal with Stellantis … but obviously, when the Inflation Reduction Act came, they asked that we sit down to make sure that in the spirit of maintaining that activity, that we look at what we can do. So, we have been negotiating.”Article content

He added that he had a two-hour-long dinner with the president of LG Energy Solutions Ltd., a company that has invested in the Windsor plant along with Stellantis, something which Champagne describes as a “good sign” with regards to the future battery plant in Windsor.
