Dothan Housing announced Tuesday that it has received $141,216 in funds courtesy of HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing voucher awards.
The awarded vouchers will be administered in partnership with Montgomery VA Medical Center, and DH is included amongst the 71 recent awardees nationwide. These voucher awards came following the closing of the Housing Choice Voucher waitlist, which increased substantially to where it now demonstrates a sizeable need for affordable housing. The waitlist is approximately 15% of the city’s population.
Funding and partnerships with developers are critical to housing families and members of the homeless population within the Wiregrass region. “Our veterans are an integral part of the Wiregrass and deserve to reside in communities where their health and social well-being are held in high regard,” Dr. Tamara Berry-Andrews, DH CHO, said in a press release. “I am proud that our agency is moving in a direction that is seeking solutions for all of the area’s most vulnerable, which includes veterans.”
