veteran Kourtney Kang. Disney-owned 20th Century Fox TV, which produced the original series, is the studio behind the effort. The Disney+ project's lead character is a half-Asian, half-white 16-year-old girl with a genius-level intellect who has breezed through college and medical school and is now working as a doctor in Hawaii. The character's background reflects that of Kang., created by Steven Bochco and David E. Kelley, ran from 1989-93 on ABC. Neil Patrick Harris — who would later work with Kang on— played the title character. The cast also included James B.
Bochco's widow, Dayna, and son Jesse are executive producers of the reboot along with Kang, Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar. Kasdan and Mar have an overall deal at 20th.
