The Department of Justice unsealed its indictment of former President Donald Trump in special counsel Jack Smith’s classified documents investigation.
The former president was indicted on 37 counts for charges related to alleged obstruction and mishandling of classified documents.
Smith, who is also investigating Trump’s actions leading up to and on Jan. 6, 2021, was handed the investigation into the former president’s handling of classified documents after he announced his third run for president in November. The investigation was preceded by a search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, where investigators found hundreds of classified documents.
